I was doing a flower painting from a photo I snapped of a beautiful yard in Alameda. Then this pear-apple in my fruit bowl attracted me with its mottled patches and golden-orange colors. The flowers were abandoned. But I also got distracted by a great blue heron outside my kitchen window, catching fish and also closing in on what looked like an injured grebe up in the ice plant (the grebe escaped). Drama and life cycles and pears and rain and dark clouds and big winds! Life on the water is often glorious.
