daily painting | carolyn’s beets

Beets! Gorgeous. The rich magenta-pink of these veggies is glorious to paint, and after I ate them (roasted) my fingers were stained with the juices from slicing and peeling them. The long, rat-like tails were marvelous. Winter can be a fun time to paint, for roaming around farmers markets looking both for dinner and still life subjects is a blast (these luscious veggies were part of a bursting bag of produce from friends who were leaving town for awhile). Fresh California produce is a great part of living here. I am reminded of the seasons of life, and it helps me trust the flow of things; the beginnings as well as the endings.
